Borrowed Publication
‘Borrowed’ is a publication about common English words that have originated from Indian languages. ‘Borrowed words’ are words adopted by the speakers of one language from a different language (the source language).
The aesthetic of the book is heavily influenced by the typography found on Indian street signs. The lettering style and bright colours draw on this to create a connection between the content and the visual language used to communicate it. The titles have all been hand lettered using an iPad before being brought into InDesign where the body copy and other content was laid out. A key focus when typesetting the text was to create a consistency across the publication that would bring together the eclectic title styles. This was achieved through adherence to an underlying grid and paragraph styles to create a hierarchy within each spread.
